The Internal Fraud Dilemma

Mrs. Saidi, a chartered accountant and internal auditor for a public organization, uncovers a fraud orchestrated by a group of executives, including two high-ranking officials. Determined to get to the bottom of the matter, she begins an investigation, with the assistance of a detective friend who volunteers to help her compile a comprehensive file documenting the fraud. She informs her boss, Mr. Chekroun, who initially supports her efforts. However, as the investigation progresses, he grows concerned about the potential repercussions on the organization's reputation and asks her to halt the inquiry. Mrs. Saidi is outraged. She believes that if she abandons the investigation, the fraudulent managers will escape with minimal consequences. Yet, she hesitates to go over her superior’s head and report the issue directly to upper management.
